3rd Place in Spirit of the North!

The Ponies 7th Grade White team captured 3rd place in the Duluth Spirit of the North tourney this weekend. Playing up in the 'B' bracket, the girls won their opening game by holding off Superior 34-32 in an exciting finish. Trailing at halftime, the Ponies used a 21 point second half to take the lead and hold on down the stretch.

Game two matched the Ponies against Proctor and although the shots weren't dropping, the Ponies played one of its best defensive games of the year as the team won 20-14. Having stressed rebounding in practice all week long, the team responded by grabbing 46 boards and allowing very few second chances for the Proctor team.

On Sunday morning, the Ponies victory streak ended against a tough Albany team as the girls dropped a hard fought game 33-11. Leading midway through the first half, the Ponies were playing with confidence until Albany started dropping their outside shots. Down only 17-9 at halftime, the Ponies managed only two second half points and couldn't get the lid off the basket as their shots continuously rimmed out and Albany eventually pulled away for the win. A great weekend in Duluth and a fun, third place finish for the girls!
