Congrats 7th Grade White!!

The 7th Grade White team captured the Consolation Championship in the recent Elk River Tournament finishing bracket play with a 2-1 overall record. The Ponies, who hadn't played a game since mid-December, came out a little rusty in their opening game against Big Lake. Down two at halftime, the Ponies struggled to make shots in the second half and Big Lake eventually pulled away for a 40-27 victory. Charlotte Welshons led the way with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Game two featured the Ponies against the St. Francis Saints and the result was a much better outcome for the Stillwater team. Balanced would be a perfect word to describe the game as eight of Stillwater's nine girls tallied in the scoring column, highlighted by Aidan Martin's first basket of the year! Ashley Walton and Amelia Bretl each dropped in six points to lead the team to a 32-18 win.

Sunday's Consolation Championship pitted the Ponies against Centennial, a foe Stillwater had already defeated 29-26 in its Stillwater tournament a few weeks earlier. This would be yet another nail biter of a game. Sarah Harriman buried a three pointer right before halftime to give the Ponies a 13-12 lead. But, late in the game, it was Centennial holding tightly to a three point lead before Ella Spitzer scored back-to-back baskets to give the home team the lead. One more basket and a great defensive effort in the final minutes preserved the 22-20 victory for the Stillwater girls. Harriman finished with seven points to lead all scorers.

The 7th Grade White team plays in the St. Michael-Albertville tournament this weekend.
