Shot Club Wrap Up

Everything you do now prepares you for your future. These players chose to work on getting themselves better at basketball. At halftime during the varsity game against Como Park, these individuals were rewarded for their participation in the 2021 Summer Shot Club. An added bonus: All-time scoring leader for the Ponies Sara Scalia was on hand to congratulate them! Way to go, Ladies!

Summer Shot Club Challenge - 2021

WHAT IS THE SUMMER SHOT CLUB CHALLENGE? This is a fun way for players to challenge themselves by spending time improving their game. The goal is to reach 5000 - 10000 MADE shots and 750 - 1500 minutes dribbling by the end of the challenge. Easy? No, but that's why it's called a Challenge! It is very doable, though, as witnessed by the 11 players that made the shot goal and 13 players that made the dribbling goal last year. And that was out of only 15 participants!

  • Any girl  can participate in the summer shot club challenge by logging their dribbling time and made shots throughout the summer. (Current or future players entering 3rd – 8th grade)
  • Girls that reach certain milestones will be rewarded by Stillwater Girls Basketball for their hard work.
  • Challenge runs for 104 days – June 8 – September 19, 2021.
  • Completed Summer 2021 forms must be signed by a parent and emailed to stillwaterGBPonies@gmail.com by Sept 30, 2021.
  • Track your shots made and minutes dribbled each day. Have a parent initial each session.
  • Use the attached tracking sheet or make your own! (Email if you need a form mailed to you)
  • No hoop at home? Try a local park, school or partner up with a friend with a hoop.
  • Camps and games played count!! Ask your coach or parent to help you approximate shots/minutes for these based on the camp or event.
  • No registration required we just ask you reply back that your player is interested. Stillwatergbponies@gmail.com

Here are some tips:

  • Shots taken should be "game type" or "game speed" shots
  • Take shots off the dribble, ball/pump fake - and really focus on using good form. We will also send updates with videos showing drills and form later this month.
  • Approximately 10% of shots should be free throws
  • Make sure to include layups (more layups for the younger ages), free throws, and a variety of shots.
  • An average of 100 shots per day will get you to 10K! (50 shots/day = 5,000)

Have fun with this and encourage your teammates to participate!
